Interim QA Consultant – Food (Gap Analysis & Audit Readiness)

Location: Hallum, NL (hybrid)
Start date: ASAP
Duration: 3 months - Extension likely
Hours: 32–36 hours per week

Introduction

An established food manufacturing site is preparing for the introduction of a new UK retail customer and is seeking an experienced Interim QA Consultant to support this critical phase. Due to limited internal QA capacity, senior hands-on expertise is required to deliver a full theoretical gap analysis and steer the organisation towards audit readiness. This is a short-term, high-impact assignment with a clearly defined scope and timeline.

The Assignment

The focus of this role is primarily theoretical and analytical. You will be responsible for conducting a complete gap analysis against applicable food safety standards and additional UK retailer requirements (including DSC-related criteria).

A QA handbook and an initial gap analysis format are already in place, as well as a pre-audit report containing multiple action points. Your role is to bring structure, prioritisation and clarity, enabling the internal team to implement changes where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a full gap analysis against food safety standards and additional retailer requirements

  • Analyse findings from a recent pre-audit and translate them into a clear, prioritised action plan

  • Support audit preparation and readiness for upcoming customer and certification audits

  • Provide QA guidance across Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Production (PD)

  • Document findings and recommendations (gap analysis may be written in English)

Requirements

Must-have

  • Proven experience as an Interim / Freelance QA Consultant within the food industry

  • Strong knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and QMS

  • Solid experience with audits, pre-audits and gap analyses

  • Ability to independently deliver a theoretical, end-to-end gap analysis

  • Experience working with existing QA documentation and handbooks

  • Ability to convert audit findings into a structured and actionable plan

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with UK / British retailers and their specific QA expectations

  • Experience with BRCGS, Fair Trade or comparable certification schemes

  • Background in bakery or FMCG food manufacturing

  • Experience dealing with large pre-audit action lists

Practical Information

  • Hybrid working model with a strong preference for on-site presence in Hallum

  • Short-term assignment focused on delivery

  • Interview process consists of one interview (decision made by the QA Manager)

  • Fast decision-making and clear expectations
