Panda Flex
How to Read Your Payslip

This guide is for all contractors employed through Panda Flex B.V. who receive a monthly payslip (loonspecificatie). It explains every section of your payslip, translates all Dutch terms into English, and walks you through how to verify that your pay is correct.

If you have any questions or spot any discrepancies on your payslip, please contact us through the button below!

Why does this matter?

Your payslip is your official record of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Understanding it helps you verify you are being paid correctly, understand what deductions are being made and why, keep track of your holiday days and holiday pay, and prepare for your annual tax return.

Tip: Your payslip is in Dutch because Panda Flex B.V. is a Dutch employer. This guide translates everything you need to know. Keep this page handy so you can refer back to it each month.

Section 1: Your Hours and Pay Rate

The first thing you will want to check each month is whether you are being paid for the correct number of hours at the correct rate. This information appears on the third table of your payslip, in the line that shows your client assignment details.

Where to find it?

Look for the line that appears directly underneath your client company name and job title. It will look like this:

How to read this line

On your payslip (Dutch)

What it means (English)

Loon normale uren

Pay for normal hours — this is your standard hourly pay line

Hours

The number of hours you worked in this period (e.g. 152 hours and 00 minutes)

Hourly rate

Your hourly rate in euros

Gross pay

Your total gross pay for these hours

How to verify

Multiply the hours shown by the hourly rate. For example: This should match the amount shown on your payslip. If you worked different types of hours (overtime, weekend, etc.), each will appear as a separate line.

Important: Always check that the number of hours on your payslip matches the hours you actually worked and submitted. If there is a discrepancy, raise it with Panda by sending an email to flex@panda-int.com.

Section 2: Your Personal and Employment Details

The top-left of your payslip shows your personal details and contract information. Below is every field that appears in this area, exactly as shown on the payslip, with its translation:

Section 3: Employer Details and Reference Numbers

On the right-hand side of the header, under the heading Loonspecificatie (Payslip), you will find the Panda Flex company details and payslip reference numbers:

On your payslip (Dutch)

What it means (English)

Loonspecificatie

Hirer's remuneration (scale level 1) — means your pay is based on the client company's pay scale, as required by Dutch law for agency workers. The number after the dash indicates the pay scale level.

Tip: The Inlenersbeloning (hirer’s remuneration) system means you are entitled to the same base pay as permanent employees doing the same work at the client company. This is a legal right under Dutch agency work regulations.

Section 5: Understanding the Financial Table

The main body of your payslip is a detailed financial table. Before we walk through each line, it is important to understand what the column headers mean. These appear exactly as follows on your payslip:

Here is what each column heading means:

The three main column groups

On your payslip (Dutch)

What it means (English)

Mutatie

Transaction — the change/movement for this specific pay period

Totaal tijdvak

Total period — the running total for the current pay period (usually the same as Mutatie for your first month)

Verrekenen

Settlement/Offset — amounts being settled or corrected from previous periods (usually empty)

The individual columns

On your payslip (Dutch)

What it means (English)

Omschrijving

Description — the name of the line item (e.g. pay, deduction, or contribution)

R

Risicogroep (Risk group) — an internal classification code. You will see the number "3" here. This refers to your risk category for social insurance. You can safely ignore this column.

T

Tijdvak indicator (Period indicator) — when you see "T" in this column, it means this line applies to the current pay period

Percentage

The rate used to calculate a deduction (e.g. "0,1000%" means 0.10%)

Grondslag

Basis/Base — the salary amount that the percentage is calculated on

Fiscaal

Taxable amount — the amount that is relevant for tax purposes

Betalen

Pay — the actual amount being paid to you or deducted from your pay. Negative amounts (with a minus sign) are deductions.

Section 6: Every Line in the Financial Table

Now let’s walk through every single line you will see in the financial table, in the exact order they appear on your payslip. We will use example figures to show how the calculation works.

Line 1: Loon normale uren

Translation: Pay for normal hours

What it means: This is your basic gross pay. The amount (e.g. EUR 2,763.36) is your hours worked multiplied by your hourly rate. The "3" in the R column is your risk group. The "T" in the T column confirms this is for the current period. The amount appears under both Mutatie and Totaal tijdvak because in a standard month they are the same.

Line 2: Totaal bruto loon

Translation: Total gross salary

What it means: This is the sum of all your earnings lines above. If you only have one earnings line (normal hours), it will be the same amount. This is your total pay before any deductions.

Line 3: PAWW bijdrage: www.spaww.nl

Translation: PAWW contribution

What it means: PAWW stands for Private Aanvulling WW (Private Supplement to Unemployment Insurance). This is a mandatory contribution of 0.10% of your gross salary to the PAWW foundation (www.spaww.nl). It provides a supplementary benefit if you become unemployed. The "*" symbol means this is calculated as a percentage. The amount is negative because it is a deduction from your pay.

Line 4: Premie AZV

Translation: AZV Premium (healthcare insurance contribution)

What it means: This is your employee contribution of 0.70% towards healthcare-related insurance. It is calculated on your full gross salary and deducted from your pay.

Line 5: Pensioen StiPP

Translation: StiPP Pension contribution

What it means: StiPP (Stichting Pensioenfonds voor Personeelsdiensten) is the mandatory pension fund for temporary agency workers in the Netherlands. Your employee contribution is 7.50%, but notice the Grondslag (basis) is NOT your full gross salary. This is because pension is calculated on your gross salary minus the StiPP franchise (a threshold amount that is excluded from pension calculation). The franchise is adjusted annually.

Tip: Your employer also pays a pension contribution on your behalf. The total combined pension amount (employee + employer) is shown at the bottom of your payslip under "Overige" (Other). The employer portion does not reduce your net pay.

Line 6: Loon voor loonbelasting en premies

Translation: Salary for wage tax and premiums

What it means: This is a subtotal. It is your gross salary minus the three deductions above (PAWW + AZV + Pension). This is the amount on which your income tax (loonheffingen) will be calculated.

Line 7: Loonheffingen (Maand wit)

Translation: Wage tax (Monthly, white table)

What it means: This is your combined income tax and national insurance contribution, calculated using the standard Dutch monthly tax table. Let’s break down the terms:

  • Loonheffingen = wage tax (includes income tax + national insurance premiums combined in one deduction)
  • Maand = Monthly — the tax is calculated on a monthly basis
  • wit = White — this refers to the standard ("white") tax table. The alternative would be "groen" (green) which is a different table used in specific circumstances.

The T in the T column confirms this applies to the current period. The loonheffingskorting (general tax credit) is already factored into this amount if your header shows "Ja met korting".

Line 8: Gediff. premie Whk WGA

Translation: Differentiated premium Whk WGA (disability insurance)

What it means: This is an employer-paid contribution towards the WGA (Werkhervatting Gedeeltelijk Arbeidsgeschikten — Return to Work for Partially Disabled Employees) fund. The rate is 0.415%. Important: although this line appears on your payslip, it is paid by Panda Flex, NOT deducted from your pay. It is shown for transparency only. Notice it only appears in the Fiscaal (taxable) column, not in the Betalen (pay) column of the Mutatie section.

Line 9: Netto loon

Translation: Net salary

What it means: Your salary after all taxes and contributions have been deducted. This is NOT yet the final amount you receive — tax-free allowances are added in the next step.

Line 10: Vergoedingen onbelast

Translation: Tax-free allowances

What it means: These are reimbursements that are not subject to tax. They are added on top of your net salary. Not all contractors will see this line.

Line 11: Netto te betalen

Translation: Net amount to be paid

What it means: This is the final amount that will be transferred to your bank account. It is your net salary plus any tax-free allowances.

Important: The Netto te betalen amount is what should arrive in your bank account. Compare this to your actual bank statement each month to confirm everything matches.

Tip: These cumulative figures are useful when filing your annual tax return (belastingaangifte). Your employer will also provide a Jaaropgave (annual income statement) at the end of the year, but you can cross-reference the totals against your December payslip.

Section 9: Rechten (Rights — Holiday Days and Holiday Pay)

The Rechten section is one of the most important parts of your payslip. It shows what you are building up in holiday entitlements and pay. The column headers appear exactly as follows:

On your payslip (Dutch)

What it means (English)

Rechten

Rights/Entitlements — the section header

R

Risicogroep code (Risk group) — internal code, "3" as elsewhere

Risicogroep

Risk group — shown as "IB + IIB" which refers to the combined risk categories

Percentage

The accrual percentage — the rate at which you build up this entitlement

Oud saldo

Previous balance — what you had accrued before this pay period (shown as hours or euros)

Opgebouwd

Accrued/Built up — the amount you earned during this pay period

Nieuw saldo

New balance — your updated total (Oud saldo + Opgebouwd)

Opname

Withdrawal/Used — any entitlements you have taken or been paid out

Saldo uren

Balance in hours — your current entitlement expressed as hours

Saldo geld

Balance in money — your current entitlement expressed in euros

Types of entitlements you may see

Vakantiedagen (Holiday days)

You accrue holiday days as a percentage of your hours worked. The percentage varies depending on the client’s pay scale (e.g. 13.85% or 11.54%). The balance is shown in hours (e.g. 20:54 = 20 hours and 54 minutes of holiday time). These are split into:

  • wettelijk = statutory/legal minimum holiday days
  • bovenwettelijk = above-statutory/extra holiday days (above the legal minimum)

This split is shown at the bottom of your payslip under "Opbouw vakantiedagen [year] in uren".

Vakantiegeld (Holiday pay)

In the Netherlands, you are legally entitled to a minimum of 8% holiday allowance on top of your gross salary. Some placements may offer a higher percentage (e.g. 8.33%). This is accrued each month and shown as a euro balance. Holiday pay is typically paid out in May/June, or when your contract ends.

13e maand (13th month bonus)

Some client pay scales include a 13th month bonus (typically 8.33% of gross salary). Not all contractors will see this line — it depends on the inlenersbeloning (hirer’s remuneration) at your client. If included, it is accrued monthly and paid out according to the client’s schedule or at the end of your contract.

Important: Your holiday pay (vakantiegeld) and any 13th month bonus are RESERVED, not yet paid to you. They accrue on your payslip each month but will only be paid out at the designated time or when your contract ends. Do not confuse the accrued balance with money already received.

You will also see a note on the payslip:

Translation: Note: The statutory minimum holiday allowance is 8%.
