Role
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and optimizing pharmaceutical packaging components used within labeling, assembly, and distribution operations. The role focuses on managing packaging specifications, supporting packaging component changes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
The position involves working closely with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Artwork teams to ensure packaging materials meet production, regulatory, and supplier requirements. The engineer also supports troubleshooting packaging issues, managing packaging documentation through change control processes, and contributing to projects related to packaging optimization and new packaging introductions.
Non-Negotiable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional experience in packaging engineering within a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Experience managing packaging specifications and technical documentation.
- Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Experience developing and maintaining packaging component specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience working with secondary and tertiary pharmaceutical packaging materials such as labels, cartons, leaflets, shippers, pallets, partitions, and packaging trays.
- Experience managing documentation and changes through formal change control procedures.
- Experience supporting troubleshooting and investigations related to packaging component issues in production or warehouse environments.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Validation teams.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Experience leading or contributing to packaging optimization or packaging component improvement projects.
- Experience supporting the introduction of new packaging components or packaging configurations.
- Experience working with packaging suppliers and developing supplier technical relationships.
- Experience creating testing protocols and evaluating packaging testing results.
- Experience contributing to technical investigations or deviation management processes.
