Engineering Lead & Plant Engineer - Facilities & Utilities
The Engineering Lead & Plant Engineer for Facilities & Utilities holds a cross-functional role, acting as a technical expert and supporting the successful delivery of complex projects that span across site operations and organizational boundaries. This position coordinates all engineering work packages (WPs), including Metrology, Automation, Electrical Systems, EHS, and Validation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical contact (Subject Matter Expert - SME) for assigned utility systems, including HVAC, WFI and other water systems, cooling loops, chillers, process gases, and all critical GMP utilities.
- Participate actively in investigations, deviations, and CAPA processes related to quality and EHS, ensuring compliance with cGMP, GEP, and relevant safety standards (e.g., SUVA/ASIT).
- Lead or support the design, implementation, and qualification of equipment or plant upgrades, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards. • Evaluate and approve supplier interventions related to Facilities & Utilities equipment.
- Chair engineering workstream meetings and ensure alignment across project stakeholders.
- Ensure that all engineering work packages are delivered in line with the project schedule.
- Promote a fit-for-purpose design philosophy, avoiding over-engineering and challenging excessive design solutions.
- Review and approve design deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Manage scope, risks, and stakeholder expectations for assigned workstreams.
- Support and implement a backup structure for project continuity.
- Adhere to the project escalation process and contribute effectively in line with the portfolio life cycle management policy.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Engineering degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in mechanical, automation, biotechnology, or a related scientific/technical discipline (e.g., chemistry, physics). Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemicals, or energy industries.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proven experience in project management. Language & Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in French and English (spoken and written); German is an advantage. Experience with PLC/automation systems (Siemens, Johnson Controls, or Allen Bradley) is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Teams, Project, OneNote, etc.).
