Job Title: Automation Engineer (BMS/EMS)
Location: Leiden

Duration: 12+ Months (Contract)
We are currently seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join the Execution Systems department at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Leiden. The successful candidate will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS), contributing to critical site automation projects.
The Execution Systems (ES) team is responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of GxP-compliant computerized systems and related hardware/software. The team focuses on deploying standardized, recipe-based processes that ensure consistent operations, efficient data handling, and effective visualization.
You will be joining a dynamic and collaborative team of approximately 60 automation professionals, working closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and integrators.
Lead the design, implementation, and installation of BMS and EMS (e.g., Honeywell) systems in compliance with cG(a)MP requirements.
Provide ongoing maintenance and technical support to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance.
Manage and coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and system integrators.
Execute and coordinate system modifications and updates within the automation engineering team.
Develop, review, and execute commissioning protocols, test plans, validation documents, and technical reports.
Maintain and update Life Cycle documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Bachelor’s degree (HBO level) or higher in Industrial Automation or a related technical field.
2–5 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with solid understanding of GAMP principles.
At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience with modern BMS systems.
Strong understanding of control philosophy and the ability to write detailed Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS).
Working knowledge of instrumentation, P&IDs, and control equipment in an industrial setting.
Preferred experience with Honeywell PLC HC900, EBI R600, Priva, or integration protocols.
Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English (written and spoken).
Valid VCA and NEN 3140 certifications.
