Automation Engineer | Global Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

 

About the Role

Join a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturer as an Automation Engineer, supporting the performance, reliability, and compliance of automation systems across GMP operations. You will maintain and optimize site automation infrastructure, lead improvement initiatives, and contribute to global automation strategies to standardize and modernize manufacturing processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee automation systems to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
  • Manage system user access, backups, and restores.
  • Implement corrective actions and work closely with vendor technical support.
  • Identify, plan, and execute small-scale projects to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • Support capital planning, project execution, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure all activities align with site and corporate Quality Systems.
  • Create and maintain engineering deliverables, documentation, and test scripts.
  • Support development and implementation of global automation strategies, driving process standardization.
  • Maintain and optimize automation systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop automation solutions tailored to manufacturing environments.
  • Lead automation projects, ensuring cost, schedule, and technical objectives are met.
  • Stay current with technology trends and industry benchmarks to keep the organization at the forefront of automation.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering (Automation, Robotics, Computer Science, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in GMP manufacturing with strong automation expertise.
  • Broad understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and regulatory environments.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards: GAMP, ANSI/ISA, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and GxP/QA.
  • Familiarity with ISPE standards is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and data analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team-based culture, collaborating with internal departments and Global Automation teams.
  • Contribution to innovation roadmaps, strategic planning, and mentorship/training of team members.
  • High level of communication skills, an analytical mindset, and capacity to work under pressure.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
