Assistant/Associate Scientist – Microbiology

For our client – a globally renowned biotech in Leiden, NL – we are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant/Associate Scientist to join the DPDS (Discovery Product Development & Supply) Analytical Development team. In this role, you’ll work in a truly international, multi-cultural R&D environment and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge analytical methods.

 

General Activities
  • Support the Lab Operation pillar by testing samples from various studies, projects, and investigations
  • Assist with co-validations and troubleshooting of analytical methods
  • Perform environmental monitoring, lab assays, and biomarker identification/development
  • Conduct biological indicator, growth promotion, endotoxin, bioburden testing, and microbial identifications
  • Analyze and interpret data; provide scientific input based on current literature
  • Prepare and operate laboratory equipment, standards, reagents, and controls per established procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation and timely reporting; support study directors with technical reports and data summaries
  • Utilize specialized software packages to capture and manage results
 

Qualifications & Competences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, or related field
  • Experience in a cGMP-regulated environment
  • Hands-on expertise with one or more techniques:
    • Mass Spectrometry (MS) / LC-MS
    • Evaporative Light Scattering Detection (ELSD)
    • Capillary Isoelectric Focusing (cIEF)
    • Capillary SDS (cSDS)
    • Size-Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)
    • A??? protein quantification
  • Experience with microbiology techniques such as performing biological indicator, growth promotion, endotoxin, and bioburden testing, and microbial identifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; fluent in English
  • Proactive, independent worker with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for problem-solving
  • Excellent analytical thinking with a keen eye for detail
 

Practicalities
  • Location: Leiden, The Netherlands
  • Duration: 1-year contract (minimum), with strong possibility of extension
  • Start Date: ASAP
