R&D Engineer I

Contract Type: Contractor, temporary 1-year contract with possibility to extend
Open Vacancy: 1 FTE
Location: On-site, 40 hours per week
Start Date: Preferably immediately

We are looking for a hands-on and motivated R&D Engineer I to support a fast-paced laboratory environment within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bench work, analytical testing, and contributing to product and process improvements in a quality-driven setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experimental work, process and analyze data, and report findings for R&D projects.

  • Contribute to the improvement of existing products and production processes.

  • Support the development and validation of analytical methods for existing and new products.

  • Assist with the development of new products and production processes.

  • Support the installation, qualification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Help plan and execute experimental work and project activities in collaboration with team members or under the guidance of senior colleagues.

  • Support operational R&D activities, including stock management, purchase orders for lab consumables, chemicals, and equipment, incoming inspections, and organization of the R&D lab and warehouse.

  • Provide ad hoc support for NCR, CAPA, deviations, and audit-related activities.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or equivalent, or M.Sc., preferably in Chemistry; Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field may also be considered based on experience.

  • 2–4 years of laboratory experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry with an M.Sc. or equivalent, or 4–6 years with a B.Sc. or equivalent.

  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as NMR, SEC, KF, FT-IR, GC, microscopy, and related methods, including sample preparation, equipment handling, data analysis, and interpretation.

  • Preferably experience in analytical method development and validation.

  • Preferably experience in polymer chemistry, including synthesis, purification, and characterization of polymers.

  • Preferably able to perform multistep organic synthesis.

  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant laboratory equipment software.
