For our client - a CRO specialised in antibody discovery and engineering services - we are seeking a highly capable and enthusiastic Scientist to join the Discovery & Engineering Division at our Porto site to work independently under strategic guidance with understanding and application of scientific and technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques of biochemical assays.
Responsibilities
Identification of antibody molecules applying screening methods.
Independently design and develop biochemical-based assays, in a range of formats, suitable for High Throughput Screening (HTS).
Develop, adapt, program and validate appropriate automation instrumentation used in HTS assays.
Provide scientific, technical and strategic input to ensure HTS automation.
Planning, design and execution of experiments, data analysis and interpretation, preparation of reports and communication of the findings to the team and customers.
Team and Project management.
Providing technical training and support to more junior team members.
Deliver on a wide range of intellectually challenging projects.
Profile
The most important characteristics we seek for this role are a willingness and desire to learn, an enthusiastic outlook, and an established ability to work in a laboratory and team environment.
A Ph.D degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience
In-depth understanding of biochemical including a wide range of technologies (ELISA, Fluorescence Intensity, Time-Resolved Fluorescence, Luminescence, AlphaLISA, AlphaScreen™, etc.)
Strong background and significant practical experience in developing high-throughput screening and automation of assays for antibody screening
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to plan and execute to clear timelines
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively
The ability to work independently and actively collaborate within and across teams
Share learnings and best practice across divisions/sites
Familiarity with any of the following would be an advantage:
Immunology
Experience of display technology techniques (e.g. phage, yeast, mammalian display)
Experience in Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), BLI or similar
Other experience relevant to antibody discovery & engineering screening or characterisation
Experience in an industrial or commercial environment
