Job Description

As a Lab Informatics Specialist, your role will be to support the daily use and expansion of our current

informatics systems as the key user, alongside helping us identify and implement new capabilities as part of the ongoing digital transformation of our department.

You will oversee our Electronic Laboratory Notebook (PE Signals) and Sample Management (BSI) systems, identify opportunities for improvement in user experience (prep and present How-To examples), data structuring, efficiency, and data quality.

Additionally, you will act as business project lead to pilot and implement a registry system for biological entities (such as Gene data biologics) and LIMS/LES system(s).

Finally, you will keep stakeholders updated with KPIs of systems in use, act as key-user towards laboratory personnel, and bridge between corporate IT and vendors.

 

Key responsibilities

· Proactively support digitalization and data science efforts in the department

· Mapping and optimizing digital workflows (from concept to experimental execution to (meta)analysis and reporting)

· Gather and formalize user requirements for lab informatics systems to provide new or improved capabilities

· Organize and manage pilots of lab informatics systems such as Bio registry systems, LIMS, and LES

· Coordinate the user aspects of the implementation of laboratory informatics systems

· Integrate existing and new lab informatics systems

· Coordinate application support as the primary contact between users, internal IT, and vendors

· Safeguard the quality and accessibility of the data in the laboratory informatics applications

· Communicate with external vendors and service providers, schedule and oversee their visits

· Provide status updates to stakeholders, including progress on projects, issues, and opportunities

· Become a key user of implemented laboratory information system(s) with hands-on experience and capabilities to improve workflows and connect data streams

 

Competences

  • Understand laboratory processes and methods, capable of documenting these as workflows for IT
  • Familiar with IT processes like Change, Incident, and Problem Management
  • Familiar with state-of-the-art application architecture, technology, and validation
  • Hands-on experience with managing user (acceptance) testing
  • Experience with project management (preferably certified)
  • Knowledge of life sciences at the BSc level or equivalent
  • Experience with working in a laboratory, preferably a regulated environment in pharma (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory informatics applications
  • Working knowledge of standard IT solutions such as Python, R, SQL, XML, and JSON
  • Track record in problem-solving & analytical thinking
  • You have excellent written and oral (teaching/presenting) communication skills in English to translate
  • IT-related topics to a diverse user base (including laboratory technicians and scientists)
  • Self-awareness, you can provide and receive feedback in a constructive way. You make yourself part
  • of discussions and easily connect with people
  • As a mediator, you will bring corporate IT, research departments, vendors, and other parties together
  • You are driven, self-motivated, and independent
  • You are also well organized, precise, quality-oriented

Qualifications

  • BSc or higher, in the field of informatics/data management and/or biomedical sciences with a focus on adata sciences
  • Knowledge of life sciences at the BSc level or equivalent (preferred)

Preferred specific knowledge and experiences

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience, preferably in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience with the selection, implementation, and support of daily use of laboratory informatics systems
  • Strong network with contacts to key market leaders for laboratory support solutions

Hands-on experience with:

  • Data management in the field of life sciences including electronic laboratory notebooks,
  • bio registry systems, sample logistics/management, laboratory information management
  • systems
  • Business Analytics software such as Spotfire and/or Tableau
  • Affinity with rules on data archiving for Biomedical research (QPBR)/FAIR/ALCOA+
